Oscars Night Party: 9 Snacks and Drinks for 9 Best Picture Nominees

Published by

The 90th Academy Awards ceremony is so close! The gala will take place this Sunday and will be presented by Jimmy Kimmel. This year’s nominations don’t reveal a clear frontrunner, so everything goes! This means one thing: more excitement for us, in the audience. We have a lot of recommendations for your Oscars Night party: 9 for each of the Best Picture nominees.

We all love popcorn, but sometimes it isn’t enough for an Oscars Night party, especially if you have fellow cinephiles coming over to share the most glamorous movie event of the year with you. So how about you prepare a slew of nominee-themed snacks and drinks and celebrate in style? We’ve got you covered, as usual!

9 snacks and drinks for your Oscars Night party

1. Pastry Peach Boats for Call Me By Your Name

If you’ve seen Luca Guadagnino’s sensual love story, then the connection with the peach pastry boats is definitely going to make you happy. If not, we’re not going to spoil it for you here. These delicate peach pastries are very easy to make and don’t require many ingredients. They will do just nicely for your Oscars Night party. Now let’s just see if Timothee Chalamet, hailed for his performance, goes home with the Best Actor Award.

2. Slow Cooker Apple Cider for Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman has an incredible performance in the role of Winston Churchill. No wonder he was nominated for Best Actor too. So what better drink to serve in its honor than some cider? This one can be made at home, using just a few juices and a crock-pot. But, adding some cinnamon, cloves, lemon, and lime definitely won’t hurt.

3. Chicken Cordon Bleu and Broccoli for Dunkirk

This intense war movie experience (courtesy of director Christopher Nolan) takes place in the city located in Northern France and is definitely going to put you in the mood for something inspired by French cuisine. We recommend you try this Chicken Cordon Bleu which you can cut in rolls and serve as finger food. The chicken breast is stuffed with ham and cheese, then coated in breadcrumbs and baked to perfection in the oven!

4. Cocktail Sausages and Dried Prunes Wrapped in Bacon for Get Out

Here is a perfect snack for your party, which is so much better than the horrific party in the movie. These will make you so happy that you have no chance of getting to the dreaded Sunken Place. Just wrap the sausages in bacon and give them a sweet touch by adding some dried prunes to the equation. Whatever you do though, keep the teacups away.

5. Vodka Gummy Bears for Lady Bird

This is the kind of drink that rebellious teenagers like the one in the wonderful coming-of-age-story Lady Bird would probably have non-stop. It’s so simple to make, but it gives you a great buzz! Add a splash of vodka, and let the gummy bears soak up. It will add quite the surprising kick.

6. Fish and Chips with Dill and Mayo Dip for Phantom Thread

For this delicate movie about a dressmaker in 1950s London, we give you a British classic: fish and chips with dill and mayo dip. Fish and chips are pretty much self-explanatory, but this dip is special to us. It has mayo, dill, and pickles. Stock up on these ingredients, because we’re pretty sure this will become one of your favorite dips!

7. Coffee Cake Muffins for The Post

This Steven Spielberg-directed movie features a stellar performance by everyone’s favorite, Meryl Streep. She might win yet another Oscar! The movie is about a phenomenal investigation by the Washington Post, no doubt conducted over many cups of coffee and burning the midnight oil. That’s why we give you these coffee cake muffins. A highlight is the delicious buttery crumble on top, which gives them a lot of layered flavor and texture. Plus, coffee and cinnamon are an amazing combo of aromas.

8. Braided Cucumber Sushi for The Shape of Water

Some people might judge me for choosing a fish-based dish to represent a movie that’s a love story between a woman and an aquatic creature. My boyfriend, in particular, said that it’s like eating bacon while watching Babe, Pig in the City. I really loved Guillermo del Toro’s movie, but I have no problems enjoying something fishy while rooting for it in certain categories. So braid some thin cucumber slices and lay them on a loaf pan. Add sushi rice, omelet, smoked salmon and avocado and cover with the braided cucumber. The result is pretty amazing!

9. Rum and Pineapple Cocktail for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

This one has plenty of alcohol in it to help you root for a movie about injustice in a small American town. Use both the juice and pulp of the fruit, mix it with white rum and bitter lemon. Top it with a few berries and cherries and voila, the perfect cocktail for your Oscars Night party.
