Henry Avocado Corporation had their avocado recalled in six states, voluntarily, after potential Listeria contamination.
The company voluntarily recalled their California-grown conventional avocados, sold under the name “Bravocados”, but also their organic avocados. This particular fruit was sold in bulk at retail stores in Arizona, California, New Hampshire, Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. If you bought some of their avocados imported from Mexico, then rest assured that they’re not affected by this recall.
Henry Avocado Corporation released a statement about the recall. “Henry Avocado is issuing this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during a routine government inspection at its California packing facility. There are no reported illnesses associated with this recall.”
They also said that: “Henry Avocado Corporation is fully cooperating with federal and California health officials to facilitate an efficient and complete recall of these avocados.”
“We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every action possible to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados,” says Phil Henry, President of Henry Avocado.
Avocado recall – safety precautions
All of the recalled fruit was packed in a California facility that the company says it’s been using since late January this year.
Listeria bacteria can lead to serious illness, sometimes even fatal. The most affected are children, the elderly and those who have a weak immune system. Pregnant women can also be affected and the illness can lead to miscarriages.
What are the possible symptoms? If you are experiencing fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhea, you should contact your physician immediately.
The affected fruit has been removed from store shelves. But if you have already bought some of the avocados, the company recommends that you discard them or return them to the place you bought them and get a full refund.
