Buffalo chicken wings are one of my comfort foods and if I didn’t insist on trying to lead a healthier lifestyle, I could have them every day. That’s how much I like them. Have you ever wanted to cook them but… chickened out? There’s no need. If you try to learn how to make Buffalo wings, you’ll find out they’re simple enough.

And not just simple! Buffalo wings have the best of both flavor worlds: They’re crunchy and crispy, but at the same time the Buffalo sauce (see step 2) gives them moisture and more flavor than you can possibly imagine! Want to learn how to make Buffalo wings? Stick with us, then. And all will be revealed.

They’re ideal for watching any game on TV, but they also work as spicy finger food for friend gatherings. Of course, if you want to treat yourself, you can serve them with French fries or potato wedges, but you can also try to offset the spiciness and fattiness by serving them with some roasted veggies or crudités. Extra tip: drizzle some Buffalo sauce on the side dish as well, and your evening will be just perfect.

How to make Buffalo wings in 10 easy steps

1. Gather your ingredients

You’ll need some nice chicken wings, of course. The other ingredients are Buffalo sauce, some flour, vegetable oil or canola oil for deep frying. And as for equipment, get a pot suitable for deep-frying, a bowl for the flour, some tongs, and a baking sheet.

2. Prepare the sauce

This is a hot sauce made with Cayenne pepper, melted butter, and vinegar, basically. You can play with the ratios in order to get various levels of spiciness. It is not unusual to add garlic powder and/or Worchester sauce, too.

3. Prepare flour

Add the flour to the large bowl.

4. Coat wings

Toss the wings in the flour bowl and make sure they are evenly coated in the stuff.

5. Heat oil

Add the oil to the pot and make sure it’s about two inches deep. The wings will have to be completely covered by bubbling oil. Set the stove to a medium setting.

6. Fry the wings

Once the oil starts bubbling, toss the first batch of wings in the pot. Add them gradually, to make sure that they sit in a single layer in the pot. One batch should take about 10 minutes and the wings should end up crispy and light brown.

7. Preheat the oven

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F/204 degrees C.

8. Remove the wings

Ready a plate with paper towels on it and remove the wings from the pot with tongs. Place the wings on the paper towels so that they absorb some of the fat.

9. Toss with sauce

Add the sauce to the bowl and then toss the fried wings in it. Make sure they all coat perfectly in the Buffalo sauce.

10. Bake wings

Place the wings on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper and pop them in the oven. Cook until they’ve absorbed the sauce and are nice and crispy and golden brown!

11. Cool

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the wings cool off. Then it’s time for the fun!
