It’s no longer just lettuce. The farm that was recently identified as the source of an E. coli outbreak has also recalled cauliflower and it’s time you know more about that.
So yeah, amidst all of the romaine lettuce outbreaks we’ve had this year, the thing has spread to now include cauliflower as well, according to Business Insider. This involves one particular farm in California that just recalled cauliflower and red and green leaf lettuce from the market. What is up with that?
The good news is that no illnesses or E. coli contamination cases have been recorded and the measure is just prevention. or “out of an abundance of caution”, according to the farm. It had been named by the US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) as a source in this fall’s romaine lettuce E. coli outbreak. The farm is Adam Bros. Farming of Santa Maria, California and it put out a press release to announce the recall. It affects cauliflower and red and green leaf lettuce grown between November 27 and 30.
Recalled cauliflower – what’s the worry?
The cauliflower in question had been sent to 10 US states, but also Canada and Mexico. But now that it has been recalled you can eat it safely!
Of course, worrying about it is natural, considering how cauliflower is ‘very in’ right now after Bloomberg called it the new kale last year and how it’s been used to make everything from pancakes to gluten-free pizza dough. Sales of cauliflower substitutes for flour have doubled over the past year, reaching $17 million.
The E. coli outbreak was due to an infected reservoir of water and it affected about 82 people who reported food poisoning linked to romaine lettuce. 23 of those had to be hospitalized.
Hopefully, cauliflower will survive this news and we’re still going to be able to use it in so many dishes. You can browse some of them here!
