Sweet Walnut Potato Dumplings

These potato dumplings are similar to gnocchi but instead of serving them with tomato sauce or heavy cream, we’ve made a nice dessert, and we’ve topped them with crumble, crushed walnuts, and shredded some lime zest on top. You can also spice them up with some cinnamon or nutmeg.

Ingredients Needed for Sweet Walnut Potato Dumplings

7 medium-sized potatoes
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon butter
½ cup sugar
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 ounces of walnuts, chopped
lime zest

How to Cook Sweet Walnut Potato Dumplings

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat and fill it halfway with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring it to a boil.
  2. Add the potatoes and boil them for 20 minutes.
  3. Shred the potatoes and add them in a large bowl. Add the eggs, a pinch of salt, and flour.
  4. Use your hands and shape the mixture into a smooth dough. Let it rest for the next 30 minutes.
  5. Shape the dough into a long and thin cilinder, around 0.5 inch (1.2 cm) thick.
  6. Slice the dough into 1 inch (2.5 cm) long mini-cilinders.
  7. Heat a saucepan over medium heat and fill it with enough water. Bring it to a boil and cook the dumplings until they start floating.
  8. Remove them with a slotted spatula.
  9. Now for the crumble, heat a skillet over medium heat.
  10. Add the butter and melt it. Add the sugar and for it to melt also. Add the breadcrumbs and give it a good stir. Leave it on heat until it starts to crisp.
  11. Serve the dumplings with the crumble, crushed walnuts, and some shredded lime zest.
