  • One serving

This is a pretty simple recipe, which manages to bring together a variety of flavors. We’ve got the rich flavor of beef, sweetness of the sugar, saltiness of the soy sauce, and sourness of the grapefruit. This recipe combines these ingredients all into one pan and in good fashion too! Plus, it takes only 20 minutes to cook.

Ingredients Needed for Sweet and Sour Caramelized Beef

8 ounces of chuck steak
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
½ grapefruit
sesame seeds, optionally

How to Cook Sweet and Sour Caramelized Beef

  1. Slice the beef in about 1/2 inch (1.2 cm) thick slices. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef for about 1-2 minutes and add the water. Add the brown sugar and soy sauce. Squeeze the grapefruit directly over the pan.
  2. Lower the heat and cook the dish for about 8-10 more minutes, until the sauce thickens and the beef is fully caramelized.
  3. You can serve it with rice and with a small amount of sesame seeds sprinkled on top!
