There are times you don’t feel like making things too complicated for yourself when it comes to ingredients for homemade face masks. For those moments, here are some fruits and veggies to put on your face as is.
Anytime she cooks, my godmother takes a slice of tomato, cucumber or lemon and rubs her skin with it. Just like that! Nothing fancy, nothing made ahead, no cosmetic masks, only natural fruits, and veggies to put on your face in an instant. I know genetics plays a big part in the beauty of her skin – her mother had a great complexion, with just a few wrinkles, up to the age of 80 -, but regularly taking care of it was also important. I can see the results now when she approaches 70 years old.
She’s the one that told me there are some fruits and veggies to put on your face as is, with nothing added.
5 fruits and veggies to put on your face
Strawberries and other berries
Strawberries are a natural refreshing item. You can make a choice: mash the strawberries into a mask or just cut them into halves and rub them over your skin. Strawberries are good for oily and acne skin, they work as an antioxidant and brighten up your face.
You can also use other berries with the same results; only you should definitely mash the smaller ones. Cranberries and grapes are great as anti-aging masks.
Lemon and other citrus fruits
Lemons are acidic and contain powerful skin lightening properties, they tighten up your pores and clean your face, making it shine. Other citrus fruits that are good for your skin are oranges, limes, and tangerines.
You can use their flesh, juice, or just rub a slice on your skin. Put it directly on your face, then wash off within 5 minutes. Don’t leave citrus fruits on your skin for more than 10-15 minutes because they can cause photosensitivity. After you applied citrus on your face, don’t go out in the sun for a few hours!
If you rub a fresh slice of lemon over acne scars and dark spots every single night before bed for one week, you’ll notice amazing results. Lemon is good especially for acne and oily skin.
Bananas
Bananas are available all year round, and you should take advantage of their antibacterial properties. You can use them as a natural exfoliant. They’re also a good moisturizer, so mash a piece of the fruit and put it directly on your face. Rub it a little, leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse it.
Note that bananas are great for all types of skin. Applying banana on your face will soften your skin, giving it a natural glow.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes nourish and lighten your skin. They contain potassium, which helps regenerate skin cells and promotes healthy cells. They also contain a ton of Vitamin A and C which are great for lightening skin. Slice a tomato and rub a fresh piece underneath your eyes, if you have dark under eye circles.
Tomatoes are also good if you put them on your skin over wrinkled areas, dark spots, or acne scars. You can use them as often as you want. Leave them on for a few minutes, then wash your skin.
Cucumber
Cucumber can be used on even the most sensitive skin. It’s soothing and cooling, and it doesn’t contain harsh ingredients. You can’t get any more natural than that!
A couple of cold cucumber slices placed over the eyes will work like magic on your puffy eyelids. Soon enough, the swelling will go down. One reason for that is the cool temperature, but also the antioxidants and flavonoids in cucumber that reduce irritation.
Rubbing cucumber slices on your face makes you feel fresh and cool, moisturizes your skin, and tightens up your pores. Plus, if you spend too long in the sun, fresh cucumber will soothe your sunburns. Cucumber is perfect for sensitive and dry skin.

Using fruits or vegetables is the best idea I think. Chemical-based products are toxic to the skin. We should use those elements which we eat.

Good day. I truly love your article. If I may ask you, your opinion on using Thornless Nopale Cactus Paddles as a face hydrating serum kind of consistency. Also, to use the fruits & veggies as a face mask. What could I use to make it a gel mask? I purchased a gel mask mold from Amazon along with the collagen pill. Would like something more natural. Thank you.
