Tater tots are one of our favorite side dishes! But what are they, exactly? They are shredded potato bits that are deep-fried. You usually find them frozen, but they are best when prepared homemade. The recipe is quite simple, and to bring it a small twist, we've added some fried onion flakes into the mixture.

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Tater Tots

4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon dill, dried
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 ounce fried onion flakes, chopped
vegetable oil (for frying)

How to Make Homemade Tater Tots

  1. Fill a saucepan halfway with water and add the potatoes.
  2. Place it over medium heat and bring to a boil. Cook the potatoes for the next 20 minutes.
  3. Shred the potatoes and add them in a large bowl.
  4. Add the flour and season with dill, oregano, garlic powder, and onion flakes. Mix everything with a fork until smooth.
  5. Form potatoes into tots.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok over medium-high heat.
  7. Add the tater tots and cook them until golden and crispy.
