How to Cook Gulab Jamun
- For the syrup:
Add 1 cup of water in a pot over low heat. Add the sugar, cardamom, and lemon juice. Stir for 2-3 minutes and add the remaining water. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Set aside.
- For the dough:
Add the flour, semolina flour, baking powder, lemon juice, melted butter, and powdered milk. Start mixing using a spoon. Gradually add the warm milk in the process.
- Continue by kneading until you have a dough. Use it to form balls. We’ve got 7 of them.
- For the balls:
Heat the oil in a skillet over low heat. Add the dough balls and fry them until golden brown. Set them aside.
- Bring the syrup to a boil then transfer the balls into the syrup pot. Simmer for 5 minutes over low-medium heat.
- Transfer the balls on a plate, pour syrup over them, and serve garnished with lemon zest.
