This is a real treat for your sweet tooth and it's coming from India. Prepare your own dough in no-time and form the balls, then deep-fry them. Also, concoct a cardamom-flavored syrup with a hint of lemon. Cook the balls in this syrup too and serve them covered with it. It’s a delicious dessert or sweet snack, so you’ll most certainly want to use more dough!

Ingredients Needed for Gulab Jamun

For the syrup:

2 cups of water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cardamom
2 teaspoons of lemon juice

For the dough:

1 cup flour
2 tablespoons of semolina flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons of melted butter
2 tablespoons of powdered milk
2 tablespoons of warm milk

For the balls:

vegetable oil for frying
lemon zest for garnishing

How to Make Gulab Jamun

  1. For the syrup:

    Add 1 cup of water in a pot over low heat. Add the sugar, cardamom, and lemon juice. Stir for 2-3 minutes and add the remaining water. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Set aside.

  2. For the dough:

    Add the flour, semolina flour, baking powder, lemon juice, melted butter, and powdered milk. Start mixing using a spoon. Gradually add the warm milk in the process.

  3. Continue by kneading until you have a dough. Use it to form balls. We’ve got 7 of them.
  4. For the balls:

    Heat the oil in a skillet over low heat. Add the dough balls and fry them until golden brown. Set them aside.

  5. Bring the syrup to a boil then transfer the balls into the syrup pot. Simmer for 5 minutes over low-medium heat.
  6. Transfer the balls on a plate, pour syrup over them, and serve garnished with lemon zest.
