We all know what Bechamel sauce is by now, right? It’s also known as white sauce, and it has butter, flour and milk as its base ingredients. Although it began showing up in Italian cookbooks, now it’s a sauce used worldwide in a variety of dishes. Lasagna is the most traditional example that comes to mind, but you can also use it on steaks or burgers!

Ingredients Needed for Bechamel Sauce

3.5 ounces of butter
3.5 ounces of flour
2½ cups of milk
1 teaspoon nutmeg

How to Make Bechamel Sauce

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium-low heat and start melting the butter. Slowly pour in the flour while stirring.
  2. Cook the mixture on medium heat for about 6-7 minutes, until it has a light, golden color.
  3. Keep on heat and slowly add the milk, while stirring fast and continuously.
  4. Season with nutmeg.
  5. When the sauce has a thick and smooth consistency, you can turn off the heat.
  6. You can serve it with all kinds of steaks, and use it as a main ingredient when cooking lasagna!
