The First Avocado Restaurant in the World Opens in Amsterdam

The world’s first avocado restaurant – called The Avocado Show – is set to open in the Netherlands’ capital Amsterdam in February 2017. Every dish will feature avocado as its main, desserts included.

Avocado is on everyone’s lips for a few years now, earning its reputation of the best superfood in the world. If you browse the word “avocado” on Instagram or Pinterest or if you just google it, you’ll be presented with a wide range of avocado varieties, health benefits, and hundreds of recipes. Avocado is everywhere you turn your head: at the fruit and veggie supermarket aisles, on the cover of cooking magazines or in the sandwich your healthy conscious colleague eats almost every day.

Being in the spotlight, it’s not hard to understand this news: three young Dutch men to open up Europe’s first avocado bar in Amsterdam.

The first avocado restaurant isn’t a temporary one

Restaurant owners Julien Zaal, Ron Simpson, and Jaimie van Heije told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: “Our only rule is that the dishes need to contain the green super fruit in one way or another.” The Avocado Show will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a focus on late night dinners.

Even if we don’t know yet what they’ll serve, on the restaurant Facebook page you can see pictures with avocado pizza, avocado stuffed with hummus, avocado and fried eggs on toast, and lots of avocado sandwiches. They said real desserts will join the menu, like avocado ice cream and chocolate smoothies with avocado.

Last year, a pop-up restaurant was set up in London, UK. The Avo-Brunch Pop-Up served a five-course brunch menu. But a pop-up restaurant is a temporary one, and this one was open for only two days – April 10 and May 8.

If you love this healthy and versatile fruit and you’re planning to visit Amsterdam – known for its museums, canals, and its Red Light District – maybe you should consider spending at least one evening in The Avocado Show bar, for a drink and some late avocado snacks.

If you don’t plan a trip to Amsterdam very soon, but you’re craving a good avocado dish, wrap something up in your own kitchen. We have plenty of recipes for you. Find them here.
