What Will Celebrities Eat at the 2019 Oscars?

Published by

The most important night for Hollywood, this year’s Academy Awards gala is upon us. Others will tell you about the films that compete for the tiny gold men, but we want to talk here about the food that celebrities will be having at Sunday’s glamorous event. Here’s what the likes of Lady Gaga, Rachel Weisz and Bradley Cooper might be eating at the 2019 Oscars.

Can you take just a moment and imagine the kind of food that people can enjoy at the Governors Ball, the official afterparty of all Academy Awards galas? The thing is you don’t really need to imagine it since we’re here to tell you exactly what your favorites will be dining on Sunday night at the 2019 Oscars.

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck has been feeding Oscar winners and nominees for a quarter of a century, this is his 25th Governors ball to be precise. Some of the dishes are classics, and Puck has left his mark on them for a while now, while others are new creations of the chef and his catering team.

The 2019 Oscars menu has it all

For instance, Hollywood celebrities have been having Puck’s smoked salmon Oscar topped with caviar for years. Yeah, the salmon is Oscar-shaped! At the same time, he has created new dishes for this year, like Nashville hot fried quail with a red velvet waffle. One of the new items is inspired by a dish the chef’s mother used to cook for him when he was a child, in Austria. Because they lived near the border with Italy, they used to have ricotta dumplings, and the 2019 Oscars updates that by pairing it with watercress pea pesto and brown butter.

The menu is always a mixture of fancy food (caviar, anyone?) and comfort food that no one in their right mind would say no to, like chicken pot pie or an updated version of macaroni and cheese with winter truffle.

The tray-passed hors d’oeuvres contain the Wolfgang Puck signature pizzas as well as the spicy tuna tartare. There’s going to also be a raw bar, but also ‘served hot’ and ‘served cold’ passed small plates. And the dessert menu is one page long and includes chocolate Oscars, a few types of cookies, a pavlova and cheesecake and so on.

Of course, there are plenty of vegan and gluten-free dishes and desserts, for all possible celebrity diets.
