The Meghan Markle Diet: 7 Things the Duchess Loves to Eat

Published by

Yeah, we can’t exactly call this the official Meghan Markle diet, more like a set of principles, guidelines, and dishes that the new Duchess integrates into her meal plan.

The world loves princesses. Fictional or otherwise. That’s a fact. It’s no wonder then that the recent wedding between Prince Harry and former “Suits” actress Meghan Markle has taken the world by storm and made us all dream dreams of romance. Beyond that, every aspect of the woman’s life has been put under a microscope. Her choices for makeup, the royal menu, the outfits she wears when she’s out in public in an official or unofficial capacity have been thrust into the spotlight.

But the thing is, the Duchess has a refreshing outlook on eating habits and, in my humble opinion, a pretty relaxed view on eating habits. Thus, the Meghan Markle diet, if we can call it that, is full of tasty items you’ll be pretty impatient to try out for yourself.

8 foods that are the basis of the Meghan Markle diet

1. Hot water and lemon

No matter what she chooses to have for breakfast (we’ll get into it, soon enough), Meghan Markle has one particular thing to drink: a glass of hot water, with some lemon thrown in for good measure. It’s supposed to help you lose weight, detox your body and also help with digestion. That and other benefits related to vitamin C. But be careful, though, if you have stomach issues because hot lemon water can make things worse. Make sure to eat something fulfilling before the hot water and lemon.

2. Fruit for breakfast

No matter what Meghan has for breakfast, fruit is a big part of it. She will either eat steel-cut oats served with bananas or other fruit topped with Manuka honey and bee pollen.

3. Cheese omelet

An omelet with cheese, fresh herbs and some toast on the side is another great entry in what we might call the Meghan Markle diet. This is always a great option for anyone thanks to the protein and healthy fat found in the eggs.

4. French fries

Or, we could call them chips, since now Meghan is living in the UK, and that’s how they call French fries there. Of course, this is one of her guilty pleasures, and she actually went so far as to say that the thinly cut deep-fried potatoes are almost like an entire food group for her. One that she enjoys sharing with friends over lunch.

5. Green juice

Meghan Markle doesn’t want to go running to our every day savior, coffee, whenever that desire for nap time hits at around 3 or 4 p.m. That’s why she chooses to make some green juice or a smoothie with ingredients like apple, lemon, kale, spinach, and ginger because all of the vitamins and nutrients give her more of an energy boost.

6. Slow-cooked food

You shouldn’t be afraid of using your slow-cooker or crock-pot. She loves to have dear people over and cook for them on Sundays. She usually goes for lamb tagine, pot roast, or hearty soup. But one of her favorite slow-cooked dishes is Filipino-style chicken adobo. She even gave out her recipe in the past: add garlic, soy, vinegar, lemon, and chicken to the crock-pot, and then let the ingredients get tender until the chicken falls off the bone.

7. Wine

Meghan actually had a lifestyle blog called The Tig. And she had named it after her favorite wine brand, Tignanello. She told Best Health in the past: “Of course I’m going to have that glass of wine – it’s delicious and I enjoy it. Do the things you enjoy within reason. Know your body and what works for you and you’ll be fine.” She also said that she loves wine so much, that she sometimes has it instead of dessert. She usually has red wine, but during the summer, she prefers rosé when she’s out with her friends (we have that in common!)
