DIY: Using coffee in your beauty routine

1. Anti-cellulite scrub

Cellulite is a condition in which the skin has underlying fat deposits making it look like an orange peel. Dermatologists say that cellulite may affect up to 90% of women at some point in their lives, according to Medicalnewstoday.com. The causes of cellulite are not well understood, but it’s believed that it comes down to a wide range of culprits, like hormonal factors, genetics, diet, and lifestyle factors.

However, the caffeine in coffee grounds is thought to enhance fat metabolism and increase blood circulation, possibly reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Put some water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Put 1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil in a bowl and heat it over the boiling water. Slowly stir the coconut oil until it melts completely. Keep it aside to cool but not solidify. Once it cools a bit add 1 cup of ground coffee, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon. Mix all the ingredients together and pour the mixture into a jar or an airtight container. Use this anti-cellulite scrub once, or twice a week, to rub your skin on the affected areas. The coffee and sugar will exfoliate your skin, and the coconut oil will leave it soft and moisturized.

One of the reasons you can use coffee in your beauty routine is that coffee grounds have the perfect texture for a great scrub. It gently removes dead skin cells to reveal the fresh, healthy skin underneath. Coffee beans also contain caffeic acid, which boosts collagen production.

If you want a glowing skin tone, use coffee in your beauty routine! To make a facial scrub, mix 4 tablespoons of coconut or olive oil with 5 or 6 tablespoons of finely ground coffee (fresh or brewed) and a few drops of tea tree oil (or your favorite essential oil). After you mix all the ingredients, store the scrub in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. You can use this scrub for several weeks, every day. How to use it? Just scoop out a small portion and gently buff in a circular motion on your face. Then, use warm water to rinse your face, making sure to wash away all traces of your scrub.

3. Coffee for hair growth

When you’re thinking of using coffee in your beauty routine, don’t stick to skin! Your hair can also benefit from caffeine! Caffeine increases blood circulation. You can use it on your scalp, to improve your hair growth. So make a strong pot of coffee and use it to massage your scalp directly!

Let the brewed coffee chill and, while you’re in the shower, pour the coffee on your hair roots. Allow it to sit for as long as possible. Rinse your hair, and use your usual beauty products. You will likely notice less shedding and increased hair growth with regular use.

Plus, soaking your hair in coffee will darken your color, which can be great for brunettes or people with gray hair.
